This past weekend- June 22nd-23rd- was fun as I had the time to go to a book sale at the George & Helen Mahon Public Library in Lubbock Texas. For those of you who do not know me I currently live close to Lubbock Texas. It was a fun time with my girlfriend as we both found some pretty good reads. I normally don't keep up with events at public libraries, I normally go to bookstores when I feel like doing some shopping to expand my collection. With this venture, I figure why not get more invested. There is a local community for writers in Lubbock called the Caprock Writer's and Illustrators' Alliance that I plan on joining to network and learn from others who have embarked on being authors themselves. They are accepting submissions right now for their 2024 Anthology titled 'Beneath the Lubbock Sky' which I plan on submitting a short story. I will post that story on the blog as it will be an extra from the already finished ones that I have so far. I hope they accept it and perhaps I win some prizes.

The picture I posted are the books that I bought, the black one with no cover art is the novelization for Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith. As you can see I also bought Episode I The Phantom Menace. I was never one for reading the novelizations for movies growing up, but not that long ago I read the novelization for Star Wars A New Hope. I found it in the Sci-Fi section of a used book store, the copy is from before Lucas added 'A New Hope' for the remastered versions. I was amazed of how much lore was added in the novelization especially sections that went into more detail about the Tusken Raiders, and Luke's friends in Tatooine. When I saw both Episodes I and III, I quickly started looking for Episode II but I did not find it anywhere. I'm excited to see what details are in those pages that we do not get to see in the final film version.
I also have the same excitement for The Silence of the Lambs. Now with that one I do know the novels came first before they got adapted into movies. I look forward to seeing the contrast between the film and the novel. The rest are little snippets into what I like to read, as you can see I love classics, fantasy, and thrillers. Some of these will not get read for a while as I am currently trying to finish the Witcher Series- I am not far into The Lady of the Lake- but in time I will read them. My collection is not that big so I do not feel overwhelmed with having lots of books on some extensive backlog. I try to read every other night as it helps me with my vocabulary and, I find the stories more compelling than what I see on most streaming platforms.

Here is also a picture of a nice bookmark that they gave us that has dates for future book sales, it seems that they have them every month so perhaps I will go again and see what else I can find. They were pretty cheap! fifty cents for paperbacks and one dollar for hardbacks, if you are in the Lubbock Texas area I highly recommend it. Also, I will be posting my second short story next week, the first week of July. So hopefully you come back and have the time to read it and share your thoughts. You will also see the link to the Caprock Writers Anthology rules and submission page, I hope you too get the motivation to submit something. Feel free to comment and let me know if you will, perhaps I could also post your story on the blog as it will help to collaborate and get the 'word out there' of people who want to share great stories.
