Hello everyone! In the realm of creative writing, rejection often looms large, like a dark cloud casting a shadow over the dreams of aspiring authors. However, what if this rejection could be transformed into an opportunity for growth? Understanding the power of rejection offers a pathway to enhance one's writing skills and achieve success in the literary landscape. Why am I writing this? Well, rejection is a common experience for writers at every level. Submissions to magazines or entries into contests are often met with disappointment. When you receive a rejection letter, it's easy to feel discouraged or question your abilities. Yet, this emotional journey is essential for growth (so I keep telling myself even in days I might not believe it).

My entry to the Screencraft Cinematic Prose 2025 Competition did not make it to the semifinals. While I was initially disappointed when I received the email. Entering writing competitions offers valuable benefits beyond the chance of winning prizes. These contests serve as vital platforms for sharing your work and offering feedback that can help you develop as a writer. Facing rejection directly can generate resilience and inspire a stronger commitment to the craft. This was my first attempt at a screen play competition that accepted prose, I submitted a short story that I wrote as part of my first volume. To make it through to the quarterfinals with something that could probably be better as time goes on, I feel proud of myself. Instead of letting this rejection deter me, I view it as a call to explore various writing styles, themes, and forms. Experiencing rejection in this way highlights the importance of trying to adopt a growth mindset. Instead of seeing rejection as a failure, I am trying to view it as a sign of progress. This perspective allows me to experiment with different styles and genres, potentially leading to unexpected successes. Embracing curiosity in each rejection creates an enriching and enjoyable writing experience that fosters creativity by looking at what is popular right now, or trying to understand the reader base you are trying to appeal to.
I like participating in competitions like this because they foster discipline and punctuality. Many contests set firm deadlines, urging you to finalize a piece that might otherwise remain unfinished. This push can be incredibly effective in cultivating consistency in your writing practice. Because of the submissions I have made, I feel a sense of urgency to finish stories that I have been spending too much time on.

I will continue to bring you on this journey through the wins and losses, by embracing this rejection, I hope to navigate the thrilling landscape of literary success, with determination and a supportive community of those that follow me and like what I have written. The power of rejection can transform into creative triumphs. I will continue on working to refine my writing and prepare for the next competition with renewed enthusiasm!
Proud of you Mr. Writer! You already made it this far. Keep going! 🙌🏻
